Iranian with syabu nabbed in Penang

BUTTERWORTH: Customs officers detained an Iranian farmer at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas after they found 3.5kg of syabu with a market value of RM875,000 in his bag.
The man, in his 30s, arrived in Penang on a transit flight from the Kuala Lumpur Inter­national Airport (KLIA) at 11.30am on Sunday.
State Customs enforcement division deputy director R. Mariappa said the syabu was found inside a white cardboard hidden in his travelling bag.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had come to Malaysia through KLIA on several occasions since last year.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days. He faces the mandatory death penalty.
It was learnt that the man was previously an airline ground handler before becoming a farmer.
